Black Sea GOOS presented at the First Regional Forum of the Global Ocean Observing System and EuroGOOS Conference.

The First Regional Forum of the Global Ocean Observing System and 3rd EuroGOOS Conference was held in Athens (Greece) on 2-6 Dec. 2002. The Forum started on Monday Dec. 2 and ended in Friday Dec. 6 afternoon. Black Sea GOOS was presented by Prof. Ilkay Salihoglu (Executive Secretary) and Prof. Gennady Korotaev (Steering Committee Member). The Black Sea GOOS Chairman Academician Valery Eremeev due to other obligations was not able to participate the forum.

On Dec.2, 2002, First GOOS Forum Session Prof. I. Salihoglu presented the Black Sea GOOS Regional Report (Annex I). On Dec. 5, Thursday on the Plenary Session of the Euro GOOS Conference, Prof. I. Salihoglu presented the Black Sea GOOS (Status) (Annex II).

IOC/UNESCO GOOS Office member Dr. Thorkild Aarup and Prof. I. Salihoglu visited the International Center for Black Sea Studies and Searched in Athens in order to exchange information regarding Black Sea GOOS activities and discussed the future collaboration potential.

Another action regarding Black Sea GOOS was the meeting held by Prof. Hristo Slobakov (Coordinator of ARENA), Dr. Thorkild Aarup and Prof. I. Salihoglu. The group discussed the venue and possible dates of ARENA Kick Off meeting.
