5. Status:
on going
6. Period (start/end):
May 2001, durability
-2 years.
7. Objectives:
The objectives of the study will be:
- To define the temporal
(seasonal and inter-annual) and spatial variation in trace metal
concentrations in the Eastern Mediterranean aerosol from samples collected
two coastal sampling site (one at Erdemli, Turkey and the other at IOLR,
Haifa, Israel)
- To evaluate the sources to
the Eastern Mediterranean atmosphere of aerosol associated trace metals
using back trajectory analysis
- Laboratory simulations will
be carried out on the contrasting aerosol samples to evaluate the seawater
solubility of the trace metals Pb, Cu, Zn, Ni, Co and Fe and the factors
influencing this process.
- Calculation of the
atmospheric flux and the subsequent input of the seawater soluble ("bioavailable")
trace metal fraction to the Eastern Mediterranean.
